Manifesto

Build love, hope, and optimism

“Let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.” Jack Layton’s last words are a manifesto for social democracy and offer a vision for a better society. Live up to those words every day.

Have integrity

Great people are driven by purpose, not just profit. Be careful about who you work for. If you aren’t able to ethically defend who you work for – quit.

Tell a story - authentically

The only thing worth speaking is truth – and the only way to do it is in your true voice. Don’t bother lying to everyone by being someone you aren’t.

Turn dreams into memes

Always think about transformative change. When the time is right, do everything in your power to make those ideas viral. The opportunity to turn a dream into reality can sometimes be once in a lifetime.

Use evidence and radical trust

The right and left brain need each other. Use critical thinking and trust data. Believe in diversity and practice radical trust – no one is smarter than those who have lived experiences in what you’re doing.

Always have fun

As Emma Goldman said, “if I can’t dance, I don’t want to be a part of your revolution.” Celebrate life, joy, and freedom from conventions and prejudice. Let’s celebrate them together, in work and in play.

Think differently

We’ve been given the freedom to be creative and to express ourselves in ways that can change our society – use that freedom.

Look good, feel good

Everything you make should be beautiful. Avoid revision hell by striving to present the perfect product the first time around.

Embrace chaos

Disciplined chaos is the new norm. The Society of the Spectacle is a guiding light in the tradition of non-traditionality.
